How To quickly Check Your Brake Pads and Rotors – Don't Waste $$ Changing them Too Soon!!

Did your mechanic say your brake pads need replacing? Are they making noise? Before you pull the trigger and spend lots of $$$ you can check them on your own and sometimes you don’t even have to remove your wheels!
In this video Josh shows you how to check the shape of your brake pads no matter what vehicle you have. He also covers how to know when it is indeed time to get a new set of pads.

  1. I always mic (measure) the rotors thickness and always find they are still well within spec even after 100k miles or more. If the brakes do not vibrate, pulsate, etc. and the rotor surface looks good then they should be fine. Minimum rotor thickness almost always stamped into the rotor. Can usually find the info online as well. I also tend to take the calibers apart and check pads and clean and regrease the caliber pins and where the pads slide on the calipers every 6-12 months. If good at DIY, then this should be an easy job and worth he 1-2 hours it takes to do it.

  2. In my country Sweden, by law, we have to change to winter tires between Dec. 1 and March 31.
    So, twice a year you check that everything is OK around the wheels๐Ÿ˜Š
